Details / Info

Essential collection of songs by long-time favorite Mohamed Mazouni. This is the first compilation dedicated to the Algerian singer, spanning the man's many skills during his long career -the man is still in the place!- From 'Bedouin' authentic style (accompanied with tar, flute, bendir) to proto-Rai and more 'classical' music under the influence of Egyptian stars to rock-n-roll / twist numbers sung partly in Arabic and partly in French. His lyrics about immigration, racism, girls or cars made him very popular among the people originating from Maghreb in France. He became a real hit-maker in the seventies, and his songs were hammered on the juke-box machines in the cafés. He was discovered by wider audiences in the 90's thanks to Rachid Taha covering some of his best songs, including the amazing rock / yéyé tune 'Ecoute moi camarade'.
