Omar El Maghribi is a Moroccan singer, musician & composer that was part of the North-African vibrant scene in Lyon (articulated around la Place du Pont) from the late 70s to the early 00s.
Really nice tape that shows how peculiar was his style - a blend of moroccan folklore, châabi, arabo-andalusian music and other elements picked here and there, throughout the arab sonic world - about which his nickname makes a direct reference: El Maghribi refers to a regional identity, whereas most of his colleagues marked their belongings to specific geographic areas (El Batni: from Batna; Staïfi: from Sétif, etc.). You'll hear a great blend of acoustic elements and classic orchestration with organ-like oldschool synths.
A1 is a strong track that critics, denunciate immigrant's situation in France.
Nice one!
