Beautiful recordings by Casablanca-born singer Hajja El Hamdaouia. She is a pillar of modern Moroccan music - and especially châabi. She modernized this genre by getting inspiration for her lyrics & songs into aïta marsaoui style (rural, traditional chants & rhtyhms from her native region), and later by introducing keyboards, bass or guitars into her orchestrations.
In the early 50s, she began to criticize french colonisation through her songs - but not only: she was actively engaged in resistance toward the oppressor, and was imprisoned. She also was one of the first women to get on stage in Morocco, and always had engaged lyrics toward women's conditions. This tape features 6 wonderful tracks, with 4 coming from the Dounia catalogue. The last two (B2, B3) seems to be exclusive recordings... Items are sealed, with great audio quality.
