ONE PER PERSON!Nyami Nyami Records was founded with a clear purpose: to release a mesmerizing rendition of the traditional Shona mbira piece Zvichapera recorded a few months earlier by the late singer Chiwoniso during an impromptu recording session in Harare, Zimbabwe's capital. Tragically, this turned out to be Chiwoniso's final recording, as she passed away unexpectedly on July 13, 2013, never witnessing the song's journey. This track not only became an anthem for many but also laid the foundation for the label's creation in 2015.Ten years have passed, and Nyami Nyami wanted to honor Chiwoniso's memory by reissuing the original version of Zvichapera on vinyl. This tribute also extends to our dear friend Martha Tom, a talented Zimbabwean musician and dancer featured on the Batanidzo record, who sadly passed away in 2023. To celebrate their legacies, we invited Martha's husband, Jacob Mafuleni -who once played with Chiwoniso- to create a new version of Zvichapera alongside Vee Mukarati, a fellow Zimbabwean musician now based in Switzerland.Recorded on tape and crafted in the all-analog style of Christian Hierro's studio in Lyon, this new version is a raw, live duet captured in a single take no overdubs, no edits.The artwork is an original drawing by acclaimed Zimbabwean artist Virginia Chihota.This is a limited-edition release of 300 copies.
