Billy Foster is a classical trained pianist and stems out from Gary, Indiana.

Billy got his feets wet hanging in his hometown's nightclubs during the 70s, and began to work on his own band in the early years of the 80s.
He recruited local musicians (Franck Russell and Rocco LaBroi on bass, Lannie Turner on drums, Larry Campbell and Henry Johnson on guitars, Brenda Marshall McClure tickled the synthesizer and backed up vocalist Glenda Eskew), and went up to Illinois' Hedden West studio in 1983.
The result is brillant, although tainted with a certain degree of ingenuousness. The whole LP's singularity is only matched by it's heterogeneity: leaping between soulfull vocal tracks to disco-jazz instrumentals, with some tracks that feature Foster's jazz technique on piano or his appetance for latin rhythms, such as samba.

As Billy was a self made man, the LP was issued on his own imprint Equistar. Bw the mid 80s, the once-coined "Magic City" was falling into hard times (with US criminality's highest rates) — and thus the record had a relatively local distribution.

FOr fans of Roy Ayers or James Mason !
