Details / Info
Absolutely wonderful tape by a musician & composer who had a huge influence on Algeria's modern music (and especially Wharani musicians) - but had, sadly, an extremely short career. Benzerga M'Hamed was born in 1936 and died in 1959 - he recorded his first 7" in 57 for Tam Tam, a label based in Marseille; and two other right after for Dounia.
He had a huge influence on several generation of Wahrani musicians - and, of course, in determining the basis for the development of raï music (listen the way he plays accordion in this tape!).
This tape features several musical gems: a blend of arab-classical, modern wahrani style, and proto-raï. The acoustic piano is absolutely wonderful - even used to give a latin flavor, such as in Khayef Rouhi. Beautiful!
Item is sealed, but cover has suffered a humidity wear - and is lightly wavy.
